Just a short note on Cruise Names. I've been calling the upcoming January Lake Guardian Cruise the "Pilot Cruise". In talking with Brian Eadie and Tom Johengen, this is a bit misleading. In fact, all cruises in 1998 (the pilot year) are basically pilot cruises. So for clarification, and for continuity from year to year, I've come up with some basic, and hopefully intuitive, Cruise Names. Cruise names will consist of 3 parts. The first part will be 3 or 4 characters identifying the type of cruise (e.g. surv=Survey, proc=Process, lagr=Lagrangian, moor=Mooring, rov=ROV, mont=Monitoring). The second part will be the 4-digit year. The third part will be a cruise number, starting at 1 with the 1st cruise of the year and increasing by 1 with each subsequent cruise (INDEPENDENT OF CRUISE TYPE). Examples: moor-1997-1 = Mooring Cruise, 1st cruise of 1997 surv-1998-1 = Survey Cruise, 1st cruise of 1998 proc-1998-2 = Process Cruise, 2nd cruise of 1998 surv-1998-3 = Survey Cruise, 3rd cruise of 1998 rov-1998-4 = ROV Cruise, 4th cruise of 1998 So the upcoming January Lake Guardian Cruise should more appropriatly be called the surv-1998-1 cruise.
