We will have six male crew members, occupying 3 - 2 person staterooms. That leaves 1 four person stateroom and 2 two person staterooms for the scientific party. University rules on sexual harrassment apply, obviously, to the ship. In no instance can a PI insist that two people of the opposite sex share a stateroom. They may share a stateroom by mutual consent, with notification to the Master, who will enter it in the ship's log. Please be aware that sharing a room is quite uncomfortable for some people, and when a PI or major professor asks a tech or student to do such a thing, they might feel intimidated and concede, although reluctantly. that is why they will contact the master to discuss the issue. University regulations require that use of radioisotopes aboard the vessel must be through a person certified by UofM's radiation safety office. The only person on record at this point is Gary Fahnenstiel. The ship is considered University property, and use of isotopes is subject to University regulations. You may not bring your own isotopes aboard. If you intend to use isotopes, please contact Mark Driscoll at Occupation Safety. His phone is 734--764-4420. Make sure you mention that your intent is to use them on the Laurentian. Any questions??? Contact me. Linda M.
