Both Larry Clark and Dave Johnson were generally pleased with our progress and plans. Coordination was re-emphasized as being very important, both within EEGLE (interdisciplinary, not multi-disciplinary) and between EEGLE and KITES. I volunteered to initiate more of the latter. The committee had some questions about cruise, trapping and other details which we answered, and whether the warm, ice free, winter would effect the program. The committee is very interested in our means of communication and coordination - we are the first large CoOP program and are being considered a model for future programs. The next CoOP workshop/program will be on buoyancy-driven plumes. We then had an EEGLE luncheon at which we discussed two new additions to the program 1) Raj Murthy (CCIW) will be deploying acoustic current meters inshore (10m) of the 4 existing current meter transects and erecting 2 met stations in our "A" region. 2) Paul Liu (GLERL) will be deploying bottom-mounted pressure sensors to acquire wave data, especially near the ice edge and under ice. Project summaries have been added to our web page We also broached the subject of our next all-hands meeting. Gary Fahnenstiel suggested the U MI Bug camp on Douglas Lake in the northern lower peninsular of MI - but we're open to other suggestions. We could use a Gordon Conference format (mornings and evenings for plenary with afternoons free for individual discussions or swimming, etc. Tentatively, two full days for results, one for planning. Most important is the timing - last year was August - I think that it should be earlier. When is the WORST time or time you can't possibly attend. Should we include weekend days ? PLEASE RESPOND BY THE END OF FEBRUARY. With all of us and the KITES folks it's unlikely that we'll get everyone. Finally, those present agreed that we would have enough material to try for a special session at the ASLO in Sante Fe in Jan, 1999 - I already have a tentative place-holder in the agenda and will communicate our intentions to the program organizers. Lots of great data from the Guardian Pilot cruise and the next cruise is only a few weeks away !!
