Subject: Leg 1 (Survey) cruise plans

Everyone, once again the weather seems to want to choose the worst end
of the forecast. Given the Gale Effect, 10 ft wave predictions for
Saturday I think its safe to say that we wont start surveying on Sunday.
However, if conditions permit we would like the Laurentian to get down to
St. Joseph by Sunday night, so that we could come on board that
evening and hopefully start the cruise Monday morning at 07:00 doing the
St. Joseph transect first. Personnel and samples will be off loaded at
the end of that transect (at the outerwall site next to the park) and we
would continue south to Gary. By the way, we will only do a single PSS
tow at St. Joseph, NOT the scheduled day and night, because of limited
time. The Muskegon transect will be sampled on our return to that port
and the turnaround for the second leg.

I will continue to follow the forecast and talk with the captain over the
weekend. We will have to make a call by Sunday morning regarding the
ship departing for St. Joe and I will email and start the phone tree at
that time.

At least when we get out there, there will be something worthwhile to
sample!!

Tom J.
