Eadie" Subject: Re: Lake Guardian -Reply Cc: eegle-pi@wings.glerl.noaa.gov The message below concerns 1999 Lake Guardian cruises, especially radio-nuclide work. I need to know who is palnning to use radionuclides, which ones and how much. Whose liscense needs to be modified to cover this use ? GLERLs? Cotners ? This process has a long lead time and needs to begin soon. Gary Fahnenstiel is seriously thinking about doing all of his work from the Laurentian because of Rad Lab space and constraints on the # of instruments over the side simultaneously on the Guardian. David Rockwell - thanks for the info - we are indeed ready to begin planning - the March 22 - April survey will very likely conflict with our needs. Our preliminary plans call for a pre-event cruise of ~8-10 days (Feb ?), an extended cruise (~21 days) beginning immediately after the initiation of the event, then a May and a summer cruise of 14 - 21 day duration. We can't identify the event timing other than through water intake turbidity history - that tells us that the initiation of the events range from mid-Feb through April, and peak in mid-March. Thus our most critical time requirement is beginning of March through April. Is there some other way for you to accomplish the goals of the spring survey ? We need to know soon whether the Guardian will be available during March-April - if not we need to seek another platform.
