On April 28, 1998, the UM multifrequency HF radar was installed at the St. Joseph Waterworks Plant (below left) approximately 1.5 nautical miles south of the St. Joseph harbor structures. This site provided a test of the HF system at a low angle of incidence to the water surface. The boresite of the array was directed at 279° DTN with the central portion of the data acquisition zone encompassing the ADCP mooring sites A1 and A2. Conditions were calm through the 30th, however on May 1st, significant suface waves existed to acquire meaningful current data. The system remained operational at this site through May 3rd. On May 4th, the system was dismantled and moved to a blufftop site (below right) in a city park approximately four nautical miles to the south. At this site, again, the boresite was centered on the A1 and A2 mooring locations. Significant waves arrived on the 6th and 7th. The system was dismantled and returned to Ann Arbor late on May 7th. Currently, the data is being processed for comparison to the ADCP data.
