EEGLE/KITES All-Hands Meeting
October 14-16, Ann Arbor, MI

October 21, 1998

The second annual "all-hands" meeting of the EEGLE and KITES projects was held at the Lurie Engineering Building on the University of Michigan's North Campus on Oct. 14-16. The workshop objectives were:

Communication within the program
Communication to NOAA & NSF
Summarizing this year's preliminary findings
Establishing sampling strategy(s) for the next field year: planned experiments, cruise details, etc

A total of 23 presentations and 10 posters were delivered at the meeting. A cruise plan for the 1999 field season was developed, and several working groups met to refine their plans for 1999.

There were a few key action items identified at this year's meeting:

Request for more lake-side meteorological stations
- Dave Schwab, et al are pursuing this, but may not be able to get them out prior to the event
Request for the NOAA buoy to be deployed as early as possible
- Dave is also looking into this with NOAA and the Coast Guard
More TSM data and particle size information for the sediment transport models
- Keith Bedford has an instrument and student that will participate in (at least) the event cruises
- Brian Eadie and Nathan Hawley will have some moored transmissometers
- Transmissometer profiles and TSM measurements will be collected on cruises

Next year's all-hands meeting will again include both EEGLE and KITES participants and will include a detailed briefing to the NSF CoOP Steering Committee. The proposed format for that meeting is 2 or 3 half hour overview presentations each from EEGLE and KITES and 4 to 6 hours of posters from the PIs.
