National Council for Science and the Environment 7th Annual Conference (February 1-2, 2007)

6th Annual Surface Water Monitoring and Standards (SWiMS) Meeting (January 30 - February 1, 2007)

The SWiMS meeting is an annual State/Tribal/EPA technical coordinators meeting aimed at sharing monitoring successes and challenges, learning about the most up-to-date scientific information, and discussing programmatic issues. A theme of this year's meeting is the Integration of the Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water Acts. This year's SWiMS meeting will be held at the U.S. EPA Region 5 office building - 77 W. State of the Lakes Ecosystem Conference (SOLEC) 2006 (November 1-3)

The biennial State of the Lake Ecosystem Conference, held by U.S. EPA and Environment Canada to provide independent, science-based reporting on the state of the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem, as required under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.

EcoHealth One Conference (October 7-10)
Madison, Wis.
The first biennial conference of the International EcoHealth Association. The meeting theme of this conference is "Promoting Global Health - Sustaining Natural Resources." This conference is expected to attract participants from around the world, including researchers, educators, policy makers and representatives of academia, government, NGOs, and international agencies. Experts from the fields of medicine, public health, wildlife and veterinary medicine, urban planning, conservation biology, ecology, geography, economics, sociology, environmental history, medical history, agronomy, and other disciplines will convene to better understand the linkages between ecology and health.

45th Annual Meeting of the Northeast Algal Society Poughkeepsie, N.Y. USA
NEAS '06 will be held in the heart of the historic Hudson River Valley of New York and will include a wide range of oral and poster presentations pertaining to many facets of freshwater and marine phycology. This year's inclusive mini-symposium is entitled “Life on a surface: algae and biofilms.” This session will include talks by Graham Underwood, R. Jan Stevenson, Zbigniew Lewandowski, and David Domozych; and will explore freshwater and marine algae that live on surfaces and in the complex microbial consortia of biofilms. New methodologies and applications to such disciplines as ecology, cell biology and molecular biology will be presented. There will be a full slate of talks and posters highlighting exciting research in phycology. This is a relaxed and student-friendly gathering. Awards will be given for the best graduate student oral and poster presentations along with an award for best undergraduate presentation. Travel awards of $50.00 are available for the first 50 students to register.
