45th Annual Meeting of the Northeast Algal
Society Poughkeepsie, N.Y. USA
NEAS '06 will be held in the heart of the historic Hudson River Valley of New York and will
include a wide range of oral and poster presentations pertaining to many facets of freshwater
and marine phycology. This year's inclusive mini-symposium is entitled “Life on a surface:
algae and biofilms.” This session will include talks by Graham Underwood, R. Jan Stevenson,
Zbigniew Lewandowski, and David Domozych; and will explore freshwater and marine algae that
live on surfaces and in the complex microbial consortia of biofilms. New methodologies and
applications to such disciplines as ecology, cell biology and molecular biology will be
presented. There will be a full slate of talks and posters highlighting exciting research
in phycology. This is a relaxed and student-friendly gathering. Awards will be given for
the best graduate student oral and poster presentations along with an award for best
undergraduate presentation. Travel awards of $50.00 are available for the first 50
students to register.
