Examples of Resource Shed Map Series

August 1995

This next figure shows resource sheds from the Fox River watershed in August 1995. While there are several storms, examine the August 14th storm, and follow it through time (viewed on the diagonal August 14th (a),15th (b),16th (c), and so forth). We can see that the August 14th storm is still impacting the Fox River watershed outlet on August 28th, two weeks later.

Examine the August 14th storm, and follow it through time (which is viewed on the diagonal starting with Aug 14th (a), Aug 15th (b), Aug 16th (c), etc. One can see that that storm event is still impacting the Fox River watershed on August 28th, two weeks later.

Although the major source areas for the August 14th event are only slightly different from the July 4-8, 1994 storm, in this case there was an earlier storm (August 9th) that impacted the northern half of the watershed; see the diagonal containing August 13th (e), 14th (f), …23rd (o).

The meteorological events in July, 1994 and August, 1995 in the Fox River watershed were very similar in magnitude, producing similar outflow from the watershed. However, resource shed analysis reveals distinct differences between the events’ intensity, duration, and areal involvement that allows interpretation of the difference in nutrient loadings.
