Profile: Unbranched filaments growing on moist surfaces in an extended stratum but with numerous vertical conical tufts. Common in spring and summer on wet soil.

Like nearly all blue-green algae, this genus may produce lipopolysaccharides capable of causing skin irritation and gastrointestinal distress.
