Schools in quiet water near the surface (never at depths greater than 3 feet). Brook silversides are known for leaping out of the water over and over again-especially on moonlit nights - to catch flying insects that are near the water's surface. Brook silversides eat mostly copepods, waterfleas, and a variety of insects. They also include small invertebrates, like water mites and spiders, along with algae in their diet. Length to 13 cm.
