Contribute Photos to GLANSIS

Criteria for submissions:

  • To have your photos included in the database, the taxonomy of your specimen should be verified to at least the species level
  • High-resolution photos are ideal -- please ensure your photos are more than 800 x 600 pixels at minimum
  • Please give us an explicit statement (in the text of your email is fine!) identifying yourself as the photographer, granting permission to use the photo on a government website, and clarifying the copyright status (e.g., public domain, Creative Commons, Limited Use, Creative Commons, etc). In the absence of an explicit statement, all images created after 1988 have implicit copyright, and we cannot use them, with the exception of photos produced by U.S. Federal employees during the course of their work duties which are automatically in the public domain (...but we still need a statement verifying that, too)
  • Provide the exact text of a short credit line that should appear whenever the photo is used: typically, this is the name or organization of the photographer
  • If this photo should be associated with a particular report (date and/or GPS coordinates), please provide that information as well

If you believe your photos satisfy the above criteria, please email them to rochelle.sturtevant@noaa.gov: better species photos make for better specimen identification in the future, and we appreciate your help.
