"Global Solutions to Regional Problems: Collecting Global Expertise to Address the Problem of Harmful Algal Blooms" sponsored by NOAA GLERL, the National Science Foundation, Bowling Green State University. Two-day workshop with presentations, discussions, attended by regional media: The conference goal was to collect lessons learned from invited regional and global researchers working on HABs plaguing waters worldwide. Application of these lessons to be applied to solving HABs problems in Lake Erie and other Great Lakes waters that suffer from an excess of nutrients. The conference event included a stakeholder forum, open to the public, in efforts to engage key stakeholders, as directed in the Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Research and Control Amendments Act of 2014 (HABHRCA). GLERL: Take Your Kid to Work DayYouth Education: This biennial event, offers a unique opportunity for children of GLERL/CILER staff to experience a day at the laboratory and learn about what makes the Great Lakes great! Ranging from 4-15 years of age, the kids participated in a variety of activities on Great Lakes shipwrecks, lab safety, food webs, the water cycle, clouds, and satellites, and others. A highlight of the day was a grand tour of GLERL's limnology, benthic organism and marine instrumentation labs. An opportunity was also provided to observe aquatic organisms through high powered microscopes and create arts and crafts projects.GLERL, Ann Arbor, Mich.4/23/15Anne Clites (IPEMF), Cathy Darnell (IS), Kathe Glassner-Shwayder (IS), Ashley Baldridge (EcoDyn), Kerrin Maybrey (CILER), Ellen Brody (NOS National Marine Sanctuary, co-located partner)Parents of GLERL/CILERL staff
